Spotlight on Burma - a mix of art, politics and aid

MP for Cardiff North Julie Morgan is to hold an event at Cardiff’s Wales Millennium Centre to show solidarity with protesters in Burma and the victims of Cyclone Nargis.

Spotlight on Burma will be a “mix of art, politics and aid”, featuring updates from Amnesty International Wales, The Burma Campaign and Save the Children, on the political and human rights situation in Burma and the urgent efforts to get humanitarian aid into the country.

The plight of Aung San Suu Kyi, Burma’s pro-democracy leader, who will be spending her 63rd birthday alone and under house arrest in Burma in her 13th year of detention, will also be highlighted through a one-act play by Richard Shannon entitled The Lady of Burma.

There will be a bucket collection at the event and the proceeds will go to charities working in Burma.

The event takes place outside the WMC from 4pm until 6pm on Sunday, June 22. Tickets are on sale from the box office on 08700 40 2000 or on the website www.wmc.org.uk and are priced at £7 and £5 for concessions.
