by Siddique Islam | Dhaka: Bangladesh on Sunday strongly protested against the intrusion of Burmese vessels in the neighbouring country's territorial waters. The Burmese vessels were spied in the deep sea block 08-13, foreign ministry sources said.
Burma's Ambassador to Bangladesh U Phae Thann Oo was summoned to the Foreign office in Dhaka to receive a protest note against the reported intrusion of Burmese vessels in the deep sea block.
The Foreign Secretary of Bangladesh Towhid Hossain handed over the protest note to the Ambassador asking him to convey to his government Bangladesh's request to immediately suspend all activities within the declared maritime zones of Bangladesh in keeping with the Territorial Waters and Maritime Zones Act 1974 of Bangladesh.
The note categorically emphasized that the government of Bangladesh reserves the right to protect its interests and urged the government of Burma to ensure the withdrawal of its marine vessels and halt any exploration work until the delimitation of maritime boundary between Bangladesh and Burma is resolved, the foreign ministry press statement said.
