by Myint Maung | New Delhi – The Iron Cross, Burma's most popular rock band, famous as IC to fans, will stage a live concert in London on November 23, 2008.
The live performance to be held at the Troxy Hall in London, which can accommodate 3,500 people, will be hosted by 'Creek Society Band'. It will be the first ever performance for IC members in England.
"We will go to London for the first time to perform for the people of the city. We arranged this show because our fans in London want us to perform there," an official at the IC office in Rangoon, who is organizing the visit, told Mizzima over telephone.
According to the official, who wished not to be identified, the band will include famous lead guitarist Chit Sann Maung, keyboard player Banyar Naing and Bass guitarist Khin Maung Thant. The band will play for popular singers Myo Gyi, Ah Nge, Y Wine and female singer Tin Zar Maw.
But, who is missing? The band's lead singer and most popular rocker of Burma, Lay Phyu has remained out of the circle and will not join the band in London. While the official did not mention the reasons for Lay Phyu's absence, most fans know that Lay Phyu has long quit performing on stage as of 2005.
However, he has never officially given any reason for refusing to perform on stage.
Despite their lead singer failing to join them, organizers said, the band is ready to fly to London and the tickets for the show - £ 30 as advanced booking and £35 for on the door purchase – had begun selling.
"We have started selling tickets. Some have already booked the tickets. And the IC band and singers have got their visa and are leaving Burma on or about November 20," said a ticket salesperson in London.
Organizers also said the proceeds from the sales of tickets will go to the 'Creek Society Bank' fund, founded by Burmese in London to help fellow Burmese who are suffering.
Following the devastating Cyclone Nargis lashing Burma in early May, 'Creek Society Band' invited singers Kyar Pauk and Zaw Paing to perform in London in July. The 'Creek Society Bank' earned over Kyat 17 million, which it used to donate to victims of Nargis.
