by The The | New Delhi – An 'Air Mandalay' Airline's domestic flight on Tuesday had to make an emergency landing at Burma's new jungle capital Nay Pyi Taw airport following the smell of smoke onboard.

An official in Air Mandalay's Rangoon office said its flight No. 401/402, which was flying from Rangoon to Mandalay in upper Burma, had to make an emergency landing at Nay Pyi Taw.

"The flight landed on an emergency basis because there was smell of smoke on board. It was about 7:30 a.m. However, it was discovered that it was a coil of a fluorescent lamp which was burning," the official told Mizzima.

After a thorough check of the aircraft, it headed from Nay Pyi Taw to Mandalay. All passengers onboard were safe, he added.

Air Mandalay has two ATR-72 aircrafts and one ATR-42 and operates regular flights to Rangoon, Mandalay, Hehoe, Tavoy, Myaik, Kawthawngh, Sittwe, Thandwe and Tharchileik towns across Burma.
