Barack Obama wins U.S. Presidential election

by Mizzima | Barack Obama, after a long campaign of 21 months, was finally elected as the 44th President of the United States on November 4th.

Obama, who will be the first black president in the United States, was projected to win 338 electoral votes and 51 percent of the popular vote, compared to rival John McCain's 156 electoral votes and 48 percent of the popular vote, as of the time of writing.

The 47 year-old Obama, whose slogan is to bring 'change' to the U.S, government, will be sworn in as President and move into the White House on January 20, 2009.

The Democratic candidate's victory comes as current Republican President George W. Bush's popularity rating continues to hover around all time lows for a sitting U.S. head of state.
